HOW TO MANAGE MY HOCKEY TEAM
The subject of this article “How to manage my hockey team” is certainly one of the most requested topics here at MZ hockey, alongside questions about training and tactics.

And this is going to be my subject today.

We have repeatedly asked questions like "How to build my hockey team?" How to build a team with 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 million? Nearly always users who ask these questions are inexperienced users, some with previous experience at MZ Football, but with some difficulties at hockey. I am going to pinpoint some important moves to do at this initial stage, later on I’ll get deeper at some of the points here quoted and more.

THE BEGINNING
Especially at the beginning, what makes the difference is patience; it will make a big difference in my opinion in your club’s future results. If you intend to have a successful team, and by success I mean to get to Top League and Cup Finals, patience will be key along with planning and perseverance upon what you planned.

Within your planning, many times you will have cash, for instance, and when you see a player who can maybe add something to your team, even if he does not fit within the planning done before you will be tempted to buy the player and will end up buying.
This happens a lot when we have very few things to do in the MZ. We are not in any cup final phase, see nothing interesting in the forum, so only the market will cheer us up and as I have said before this time we have to be very careful. There are people who cannot hold the money they have; after the first million saved they go crazy to sign a new player.

I think it’s very important to have Money but to take the opportunities that can show up in the market if this won’t ruin or delay you plan developed for your club.
So this is the first tip, plan and patience.

And a lot of patience because my plan is for long term and if you don’t have patience, you won’t have the results expected.

Ok! BUT WHAT KIND OF PLAN DO I HAVE TO MAKE IN ORDER TO REACH THE TOP LEAGUE AND OFFICIAL CUPS FINALS?

PLANNING FOR A NOVICE TEAM:

THE STADIUM
In my opinion, the stadium has to be built as fast as possible. A complete stadium means have one with correct amount of capacity and facilities according to you current division. This is going to take a while and of course, will be done gradually.
A hockey, a new team starts in a low division with a stadium like that:

Seating: 2000
Terracing: 5000
VIP seats: 0
Facilities:
Restaurant (1)
Hotdog stand (6)
Fast Food outlet (1)
Bar (1)
Souvenir shop (2)
The promotion is imminent, even if you finish bottom, therefore I suggest that you start developing the stadium according to a higher division, which is like that:
Seating: 2000 (The ideal for low division is less than that, however you better keep it for when you go to higher divisions)
Terracing: 5649
VIP seats: 150
Facilities:
Restaurant (9)
Hotdog stand (19)
Fast Food Outlet (12)
Bar (6)
Souvenir shop(9)
Hotel (3)

However, you will not build everything such as Restaurants, Fast Food, Bars and Hotels right away, firstly because you won’t have money enough, secondly because you should sign players for Welcome Cups that I will talk about below.

Do then the following works in your stadium:

Build 649 more terracing, 150 Vip seats, 13 Hotdog stands and 7 Souvenir shops.
The construction value for these items will be: R$ 380,262 (Brazilian currency), you still left over R$ 109K to be used in the sign of players for the Cup Welcome, plus the income with league matches, sponsor, friendlies and other competitions.

It’s important to remind you that Clinic is not necessary at hockey as the players to get injured.

It’s also important not to spend Money with name of team or stadium at this stage. This money will be better spent in other things for now.

WELCOME CUPS
The most important thing in the beginning is certainly the Welcome Cups. You can participate in 5 Welcome Cups when you create your team and only new teams are invited to this tournament. Stay tuned for invitations to the Welcome Cups, do not miss the chance to participate in any, you will have the opportunity to earn good money for your team.

Thinking of Welcome Cups, when you create a team you get 19 players, most of them will be fired when you’re out of all the 5 editions, however during this period, they’ll be important.

In addition to these 19 players who start in your team you should ask for youths, I’ll be talking about how to order these youths that will be 18 at the start (if you create your team in MZ until the 7th or 8th round), if you begin to play after the 7th or 8th round you should ask for only 8 young players (more details of why below).

The first thing you should do with the 19 players received is to get them in shape, it will be essential to your success at Welcome Cups. There are some articles talking about that subject.

Do the same with the youth players when they arrive, get them fit as fast as possible, i.e., 9 pucks in form.

About the professional players who started in your team, besides getting them in form, of course it is important that you put them into training. Players who have 4 in keeping or more, put them to train keeping, all the others are better train power, if some player that you received is maxed in power, put him into shooting or checking spot (the most puck in an attribute he has, should be the one to be trained). In case of a player placed in keeping and you find out he’s maxed in this attribute, he should then train power.

About youth trainings, as I said before, check the topic “How to train youths” to do it properly.

For the Welcome Cups will be also interesting to sign players. You’ll be able to buy players on the market 21 days after you established your team, meanwhile you will be playing with the players you have, obviously. With the money you have left, plus the income you will get with league matches, sponsor and whatever else, you will use to sign players. These players will be useful only to play Welcome Cups in order to reach the late stages and so, earn a great amount of money with matches revenue and awards. After the 21 first days, you will be able to play 3 Welcome Cups and with a good plan, you may reach more than one semi-final.

WHICH PLAYERS SHOULD I SIGN?
You should sign old, cheap players. As you have 8 spots for foreigners at hockey, it will be very easy to hire players that I’ll point out here. Start getting a goalkeeper, with 9 in keeping at least, an old keeper (mid 30’s) with 9 keeping will cost you around 500K (Brazilian currency), if they are more expensive than that, look for one with 8 pucks in keeping. No need to rush, if you have time to stay online, with patience you will manage to make good deals.

Apart from the goalkeeper who is the priority, sign at least 4 wingers and 4 defenders. With that done you will have 2 very strong lines for the Welcome Cup. Try to spend no more than 200K on each player but of course sometimes will be worth paying a bit more, but as I said, with patience and the possibility to log in at any time, you’ll be able to get players even cheaper than quoted above.

This planning does not guarantee success in Welcome Cups, but it will sure increase a lot your chances of getting good positions and consequently good income.

Important to remember that as soon as you sign players in the market which are better than the players you already have in your squad, you should fire the worst ones right away because they will be useful anymore, either now or in the future. Keep for a longer period only players who came in your team with 4 in keeping or more and they must train keeping to maximize. The one who reach the highest number of pucks in this attribute stays in the club, all the others should be sold. If you're lucky to have 2 players reaching 10 in keeping, for example, you’ll keep the best and get a good price for the other one.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN THE WELCOME CUPS END?
After finishing your participation at Welcome Cups you will promote a real refurbishment in your team. All the players you’ve bought must be sold, all of them!
About the 19 players who came first in your team, you should keep only those that came with 4 in keeping or more. These ones you should put immediately to train keeping, and leave them there until maximize this attribute. I guarantee you that of the 19 players you got, no one other than keepers will worth leaving in your squad.
Playing with youths will be more than enough to get promotion to 6th division and about Division Cup don’t fool yourself; even with the old fellows in your tactic it won’t be possible to win it for now.

About Season Cup, you will indeed be able to win it with the old players got in the market, however it does not worth investing in them for only one tournament, keep calm and in the future you’ll have much better chances to win your Season Cup and others.

During this period, after Welcome Cups, and up to 5th division, you will save money, coming mainly from the Official League, friendlies and Sponsorship. This money should be used to build your stadium bit by bit. After finishing your stadium, you will invest the money on young players, the ideal time to do this is at the beginning of each season, when the former youths are sold, and you still have 8 foreigner spots to be filled. Will be easy to sign good, young players with low prices. Give preference for ex-youth, 9 in power, you will find them for around 300K. You can also sign former youth with 8 in Power and good amount of pucks in secondary attributes. I suggest you to search for players up to 19 years, with minimum 8 in power and with at least 30 total discs disregarding keeping.

Plan these signings this way will also be important for building your future U23 team, as I said you will hire these players after 3 or 4 seasons, having already completed the stadium and having saved money for these signings. As you have 8 foreigner spots, you will get to hire many former youth who have the same age, in case you hire around 10 former youths this season, around your 3rd or 4th of MZ, you will have formed half U23 team for the future and you will still have former youth coming from your own training ground to complete your future team under 23, and in the coming seasons you should keep this mentality and keep hiring young players.
Be patient and in more 4, 5 seasons, meaning in your 8th season, you’ll have a strong U23, able to reach semi-finals.

THE YOUTHS
You should ask the youths once you create your team, but the quantity to ask will depend on the round you are in the season when you create it. If you create your team at the beginning of the season, until the 7th or 8th round ask for 18 youths. But why 18, if we can ask 26 in total? 18 because for me the ideal is to have a 9-9-8 scheme, but ask for only 9 in the first season is not enough because you won’t be able to set up an U18 team and we must have more than the senior team to keep motivated in the game and not to give up quickly. And your willingness, your desire to succeed after the Welcome Cups will mainly be the prospect of getting something in the Under-18 tournaments.

So let's ask the first season 18 youth players to form our U18 team and next season we ask the other 8 players missing in the scheme. With full amount, you will then start playing with highest quality possible, but for that to happen, all of your Uxx should be well trained and so I recommend you to read my other topic “HOW TO TRAIN OUR YOUTH".

BUT THE PLANNING WASN’T TO HAVE A 9-9-8 SCHEME?
Yes! But we don’t ask only 9 youths in the first season so we can have conditions to set up an U18 team in the beginning. In the fourth season, the first 18 will graduate, then you will lower the number to 17, having now the scheme 9-8-0. In the fifth season, you have only 8 youth so raise the total number to 18, having now 9-9-0 and in the upcoming term you finally reach the ideal scheme, with full amount of players split in 9-9-8.

WHAT IF I CREATE MY TEAM AFTER THE 8TH ROUND?
If you create your team after the 8th round does not worth asking for 18 youths, do you know why? Because they will have lost many days of training and the earlier in the season you ask for young players obviously the more days they will play within the season. Whether asking players in the beginning or in the end of the season, they will arrive with the same age.

In this situation, even though you are almost at the end of the season, ask for 8 youths, yes, 8 because this will at least make your life a bit easier to get to the 9-9-8 scheme. In this situation you’ll raise the amount of young guys to 17 in the second season and to 26 in the third term.

SOME ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Arrange friendlies every week, the income is good and very important.
The ideal is to get a Club member package in the beginning in order to play every cup possible. You won’t reach any play-off stage but the income will be very important anyway.

Join in at least 2 Friendly leagues and 2 Friendly or Prized Cups simultaneously, to guarantee maximum income in the week.

Every week, you can earn Money from 2 friendly matches played at home, meaning that if you play 3 matches at home soil, you will still get Money from only the first two matches. Remembering that the income from friendlies, Friendly leagues, Friendly and Prized Cups goes entirely to the hosts of the match.

You’ll get money from the first five matches played in Friendly leagues, Friendly Cup and Prized Cup in the week.

There is no limit of income in Official Cups, but the revenue is shared between hosts and visitors.

For League matches, the whole income goes to the team playing at home.
